HYROX Pro Doubles
/ ˈhaɪrɒks proʊ ˈdʌblz / · proper noun
Also: Pro Doubles, HYROX Pro Doubles Men, HYROX Pro Doubles Women
The heaviest and most physically demanding team format in HYROX: a two-athlete team racing at Pro-division loads. Both athletes run all eight 1km segments together, then split reps at each of the eight stations however they choose, but at Pro weights, meaning heavier sleds, heavier farmer's carries, and a taller wall ball target than standard Doubles.
Race standards
Identical structure to HYROX Doubles (shared running, alternating stations), but scaled to Pro weights: 202kg sled push (M) / 152kg (W), 9kg wall ball (M) / 6kg (W) with a 10ft/9ft target, and 32kg/24kg farmer's carries.
Why teams choose Pro Doubles
- Load distribution: a heavy Pro sled push is more survivable split between two athletes than attempted solo, which is why some strength-limited individual racers prefer the team format at Pro weights over racing Pro solo.
- Complementary pairing: the format rewards pairing a strength-biased athlete with an endurance-biased one: the team's overall time depends on both the shared running pace and the total station work, so mismatched skill sets can still produce a fast combined result if roles are assigned well.
- Competitive ranking: Pro Doubles results are typically ranked separately from Open Doubles and from individual Pro, giving teams a distinct leaderboard to target.
Pacing and strategy
Because both athletes must run each 1km segment together, the team's running pace is capped by the slower partner. A mismatch here costs more time than an uneven strength split at the stations. Strong Pro Doubles teams typically run pre-race splits and rehearse handoffs so the transition between partners at each station takes 1-2 seconds rather than 10-15.
Training for Pro Doubles
Two priorities distinguish Pro Doubles prep from solo Pro training: joint running sessions to lock in a shared, sustainable pace across all eight legs, and station-specific role rehearsal: deciding in advance, and practicing, who takes the first half versus second half of each Pro-weight station under race fatigue rather than negotiating it mid-race.
FAQ
- How is HYROX Pro Doubles different from HYROX Doubles?
- Pro Doubles uses the heavier Pro-division weights (202kg sled push, 9kg wall ball for men) while regular Doubles uses Open weights. Both are two-athlete team formats with the same alternating-station structure.
- What is a good HYROX Pro Doubles time?
- Top Pro Doubles teams finish in the 48-52 minute range for men and 54-58 minutes for women, depending on venue. Recreational Pro Doubles teams typically finish between 60 and 80 minutes.
- Do both athletes need to be strong for Pro Doubles?
- No, teams commonly split by strength: one partner takes more of the heavy strength stations (sled push, sandbag) while a faster runner takes more running-adjacent load. The format rewards complementary skill sets over two identical athletes.
