HYROX Pro
/ ˈhaɪrɒks proʊ / · proper noun
Also: Pro division, HYROX Pro Men, HYROX Pro Women
The heavier weight division of individual HYROX racing, self-declared at registration with no qualifying time required. Pro keeps the identical course, distance, and station order as Open but scales every loaded station up: sled push, sled pull, farmer's carry, sandbag lunge, and wall ball all use heavier implements and, on wall ball, a taller target.
Race standards
- Wall ball: 9kg (M) / 6kg (W), target height 10ft (M) / 9ft (W)
- Sled push: 202kg (M) / 152kg (W) total, 50m
- Sled pull: 153kg (M) / 103kg (W), 50m
- Farmer's carry: 32kg/hand (M) / 24kg/hand (W), 200m
- Sandbag lunge: 30kg (M) / 20kg (W), 100m
Pro vs the Pro Series
This is the single most common point of confusion in HYROX vocabulary. HYROX Pro is a weight standard: any registered athlete at any HYROX weekend can choose it, race it at their own pace, and finish alongside recreational Pro-division competitors. The HYROX Pro Series is a distinct, qualification-gated elite tour raced at Pro weights, with ranking points, prize money, and a pathway to the World Championships. An athlete can race Pro division for years without ever entering the Pro Series.
Who races Pro
Who races Pro varies. Athletes with a strength-training background often find Open weights too light to be a genuine test; competitive age-groupers chase regional or national rankings, which are typically scored separately by division; and aspiring Pro Series athletes use Pro-division races as open qualification and pacing practice before attempting the Series proper.
Typical finish times
- Pro Series-level athlete: 56-64 minutes
- Strong age-grouper: 65-75 minutes
- Recreational Pro entrant: 80-100 minutes
Training implications
The jump from Open to Pro loads changes the limiting factor at several stations. Sled push at 202kg typically requires a genuine strength base (back squat 1.5x bodyweight or more is a common informal benchmark) rather than technique alone. Wall ball at 9kg with a 10ft target demands more shoulder and hip-drive power per rep. Athletes moving up from Open should expect 8-12 weeks of dedicated strength work before the heavier loads feel manageable under running fatigue rather than standing fresh.
FAQ
- Do I need to qualify for HYROX Pro?
- No. Unlike the HYROX Pro Series league, the Pro division is self-declared, any athlete can register for Pro weights at any HYROX event. It is a weight standard, not a competitive tier gated by results.
- How much heavier is HYROX Pro than Open?
- Roughly 30-50% heavier across the loaded stations. Sled push jumps from 152kg to 202kg (men), wall ball from 6kg to 9kg, and the wall ball target rises from 9ft to 10ft.
- Is HYROX Pro the same as the HYROX Pro Series?
- No, and the naming causes real confusion. HYROX Pro is a weight division anyone can enter at a normal race weekend. The HYROX Pro Series is a separate, qualification-gated elite tour with ranking points and prize money, raced at Pro-division weights.
